The FBI has released aerial footage of the road stop resulting in the arrest of Oregon militia leader Ammon Bundy and the death of Robert “LaVoy” Finicum on US Highway 395.
A group of militia members including Ammon Bundy, Ryan Bundy, and Robert Finicum were en route to a community meeting when they were intercepted by FBI agents and Oregon State Police. The following altercation ended with 8 arrests, one gunshot injury, and a death causing outrage and controversy across the nation.
Greg Bretzing from the FBI field office in Portland released the following statement along with a video of the road stop,
I want to caution you that the video does show the shooting death of LaVoy Finicum. We realize that viewing that piece of the video will be upsetting to some people, but we feel that it is necessary to show the whole thing unedited in the interest of transparency.”
Bretzing describes what the video shows,
Finicum leaves the truck and steps through the snow. Agents and troopers on scene had information that Finicum and others would be armed. On at least two occasions, Finicum reaches his right hand toward a pocket on the left inside portion of his jacket. He did have a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun in that pocket. At this time, OSP troopers shot Finicum.”
