Tristan Murrin wasn’t surprised to see his faithful German Shepherd, Oden, waiting at the door after he returned home from dinner with his family. He was surprised, however, to find their Virgina home drenched in blood.
While Murrin was away, a burglar had invaded his home and Oden was not happy about it. “We noticed something when we walked in, when I walked in with my mother and there is blood spots on the ground, we looked up stairs and you see trails of blood coming from up stairs going all the way down,” Murrin told local ABC affiliate WRIC.
According to the Murrins, there have been several recent break-ins throughout their Ashbrooke neighborhood. Thanks to their beloved pet, the Murrins didn’t lose a thing but their burglar lost more than a little blood.
Murrin took a video of the gruesome scene and uploaded it to Facebook last Thursday where it quickly went viral. The entire upper floor of their home was splattered with blood. “My dog, he’s a pretty big dog, it’s a larger German shepherd,” said Murrin. He continued to explain that Oden is not agressive, and plays well even with small children. “He plays with the kids, the cul-de-sac knows him. They know him as big dog, the community loves him, the kids come up to him and want to touch him and play with him.”
The whole family was thankful that Oden wasn’t hurt. “I think the dog did its job. He knew that someone was not supposed to be in my house and no one was home and he knows that he wasn’t supposed to be in there and he was doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing and so he knew to act upon it,” said Murrin.
Police have not yet confirmed if the criminal is caught, but the Murrins believe he needed serious medical attention given the ammount of blood loss. Anyone in the hospital with a large number of dog bites should be a prime suspect. Given the amount of DNA evidence left behind, the criminal should be identified easily.
