It’s been a frigid winter, and most people have the heating bill to prove it.
Here’s a simple life hack that helps keep your house warm while you dry your clothes.
You’ll need the following items,
- Electric dryer
- Large plastic bucket, bin, or trash can
- Drill
- Dryer dock
- Water
Watch the full video below to build a heater/humidifier that takes advantage wasted heat from your dryer. Note, this hack should only be used with an electric dryer. If you’ve got a gas dryer, you’re out of luck.
The hack is pretty simple, but you will need to change out the new “lint trap” from time to time. Add an air filter under the outlet holes if you’re concerned about microfibers escaping into the air.
This trick brings a lot of moisture into the home, so it should only be used in very dry climates that necessitate a humidifier in winter months. Every home is different, so this trick may not work for closed laundry areas that do not offer much ventilation to the rest of the home. Place a hygrometer in the room and monitor the moisture. Discontinue use when the humidity gets too high and you’ll have no problem (i.e. condensation on your walls).
Position the bin away from exterior walls to prevent condensation from building up. If your walls are dripping, this trick won’t work and you’ll start seeing mold in your home. Try a test run first and monitor the results before committing to the hack all winter long.
