A driver on the Beijing-Harbin highway made a bad accident worse when they attempted to drive through a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) leak.
Around 8:40 AM on February 11, 2018, a tanker hauling the LPG crashed and began leaking its highly flammable contents. Liquefied petroleum gas will rapidly evaporate once exposed to normal temperatures and pressures.
Unlike natural gas, LPG is denser than air and will flow or pool along the ground. The blue sedan below attempted to drive around the accident and unfortunately lit the gas.
The reaction was instantaneous and the blue sedan was immedately engulfed in a wall of flame which quickly covered the entire road. The entire explosion was captured on video by a trailing car’s dash camera. As the witness reverses, a wall of flame can be seen crawling more than 1,000 feet down the road.
According to the Daily Mail, two people were seriously burned and six others suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident and subsequent fire.
