Matt from Demolition Ranch has tested his fair share of homemade body armor, and he’s finally found one that actually works!
This idea was sent in by a viewer. It’s basically a piece of raw unhardened steel glued to a horse stall mat.
Matt’s confident that the DIY body armor will easily stop the smaller pistol calibers, but he’s not so sure about the higher calibers or rifle rounds.
Like all of his test videos, Matt starts small and works his way up the caliber chain.
The video is a little long, and Matt takes a couple breaks to show off his brand new weapons by CMMG: the ‘Guard,’ a .45 ACP pistol on an AR-15 platform and the ever popular ‘Mutant.’
Here are his results:
- All of the pistol rounds, .22 lr, .22 Hornet, 9mm, .45 ACP, .50 AE, failed to penetrate the armor, but the .50 left a mighty dent.
- The 1 oz. 12 gauge slug punched a big hole in the steel, but failed to fully penetrate and exit the rubber backing.
- The 7.62×39 mm punched through like hot knife through butter.
Obviously this DIY solution doesn’t hold a candle to commercial armor, but it held up surprisingly well against most handgun rounds.
Something to keep in mind when SHTF!
