A group of burglars learned the hard way that gun owners aren’t willing to be victims, even in California.
According to a report filed with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department,
On Monday, the Zhang family was inside of their home when they heard
suspects access the balcony of their residence, which was located in their backyard. The suspects then attempted to enter the home through an upstairs door. Yan Zhang retrieved a handgun and confronted
the suspects. Zhang held the suspects at gunpoint while a neighbor called 911, and his wife kept the children safe. Two of the suspects fled, but were captured nearby when Deputy Smith arrived on scene. Many of the surrounding neighbors assisted by providing information to the responding deputies. All five suspects
were taken into custody. Four of the suspects were booked into the West Valley Detention Center, and
the juvenile suspect was cite released to his parents.Anyone with additional information reference this incident is urged to call the Chino Hills Police Department at (909) 364-2000. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at

Although two of the five burglars fled the scene, but neighbors helped deputies locate and arrest them. The other three were held at gunpoint by the homeowner until law enforcement officers arrived.
Neighbor Tony Tran witnessed the burglary. “They were home and then several kids kind of tried to pry the door open, tried to get in,” he told KTLA 5. “(Zhang) got a gun so he fired a warning shot and was able to apprehend them until the police showed up.”
Zhang managed to protect his family and bring the criminals to justice without shooting anyone. He took several photos of the burglars with his cell phone:
Roberto Alonso Salmon, 18; Garret Rogers, 19; Ruben Medivil, 19; Joaquin Leonardo Salmon Garcia, 20; and an unidentified 17-year-old boy were all arrested. The adults are being held at the West Valley Detention Center while the juvenile has been released to his parents.
