Going to a public range can be a stressful adventure if there’s an idiot like this in the stall beside you.
In the security footage below, the shooter in a grey hoodie endangers everyone on the range after a hot shell casing falls through his collar.
He could have dealt with the pain like a man long enough to put his firearm in a safe condition, but he panicked instead.
The recently ejected casing bounces off the stall wall and lands perfectly inside his neckline. Startled by the discomfort, the shooter reaches back with his non-dominant hand and struggles to shake the brass free. When that doesn’t work, he instinctively reaches for the shirt tail with his dominate hand, which is still holding a firearm.
With zero trigger discipline, the man negligently fires two rounds behind himself. Had the angle been a bit higher, the shots could have easily hit the RSO passing behind his stall.
When an emergency happens your muscle memory takes over. This is why trigger discipline is so important. If you’re not about to fire, get that finger off the trigger. Practice, practice, practice.
