Robert Raines, a career criminal with a disdain for shirts, picked the wrong woman to rob.
Christine Braswell, a 26-year-old mom-to-be, was walking through a Wal-Mart parking lot when Raines grabbed her purse in broad daylight. Unable to chase after him, the pregnant victim jumped into her SUV and chased the scumbag down.
Without hesitation or remorse Braswell hit the gas and ran Raines down like a dog. The entire thing was captured on video, which has quickly gone viral.
The local police department in Ashville, North Carolina wasn’t too pleased with her brand of vigilante justice, but they seem to be the only ones complaining. The video was quickly filled with comments from viewers supporting Braswell after she refused to be a victim.
Both Braswell and Raines were arrested at the scene. When asked why she did it, Braswell told ABC News “I was not going to let him get away with it. It’s not right, it’s not fair.”
Raines has been charged with breaking and entering, larceny, and misdemeanor damage to property. Braswell has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
It’s unlikely she will be able to claim self-defense.
“When you take the law into your own hands, you can get hurt or killed,” said Ashville Defense attorney Steve Lindsay. “When something like that happens, rarely is the person who is the victim operating in a cool mind. They are very upset and angry. Once he gets the pocketbook and moves away, she is no longer in jeopardy.”
That being said, would you like to see her charges dropped?
