The men in this video are attempting to install a new $3,000 countertop. The slab weighs about 300 lbs and takes four men to set in place.
Everything is going well until the slab is rotated. The slab can support it’s own weight when moved vertically, but once placed in a horizontal orientation it can break easily.
The new counter top is far too brittle to handle any bending or deflection and it cracks immediately when the team leader tries to lift his corner.
A moment of silence fills the room as everyone processes what has just happened. The angry boss paces for a few seconds trying to think of a plan. Then it dawns on him to simply blame an employee.
Almost randomly he singles out one of the three other men and says “next time stay in the middle.” Looking at the replay it’s pretty clear that the frame was supporting the weight just fine until the leader lifted his corner.
What would you have done if this was your boss?
