If you had a pulse in the 1980s and 90s, you knew Even Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.
Played by the gorgeous and hilarious Cassandra Peterson, Elvira shared some of the worst B-grade horror flicks by directors like Roger Corman and Lloyd Kaufman, and we loved her for it.
Known for her plunging neck line and valley-girl accent, the Mistress of the Dark became a cultural icon that’s lasted for nearly 40 years. “I figured out that Elvira is me when I was a teenager,” Peterson once said. “She’s a spastic girl. I just say what I feel and people seem to enjoy it.”
Peterson, 66, still occasionally appears as her gothic alter-ego.
It turns out that even Elvira makes mistakes, as is evident by this blooper reel from the early 90s.
