An Arizona State Troop is alive today because a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun.
After stopping to check on a flipped car along the nearly empty I-10 in the desert west of Phoenix, the officer was shot and severely beaten by the man believed to be driving the wrecked vehicle. A female passenger died during the wreck.
A good Samaritan was driving along the road when he saw the drama unfold. While the thug was brutally slamming the officer’s head into the pavement, our hero pulled over, drew his weapon, and shot the thug to death.
The trooper suffered a severe wound to his upper chest and shoulder, but is expected to survive.
After the smoke cleared, authorities were able to piece together what happened. The trooper had been setting out flares near the wreckage when the assailant ambushed him and opened fire. With the officer down, the assailant jumped on top of him and attempted to kill the trooper with his bare hands.
The good Samaritan drew his gun and ordered the assailant to stop. When the man refused, the civilian shot him multiple times.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the initial crash that took the life of an unidentified woman and caused the trooper to stop in the first place.
