An armed robber in Chicago remembered to wear a dark hoodie and scarf to protect his identity while robbing the Original Maxwell Street Express hotdog restaurant, but he forgot his holster.
On Tuesday, October 31, 19-year-old Terrion Pouncy managed to shoot himself in the leg and penis after negligently shoving his weapon into his waistband. According to a police report, officers found Pouncy near the 700 block of West 116th about 6:00 AM. Around that time, the hotdog stand employees reported a robbery.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Pouncy “brandished a firearm and demanded money from the cash register.” He stole the employee’s phone and wallet before fleeing the scene. The entire robbery was captured on video by a security camera.
While running away, Pouncy “shifting the gun in his waistband… he apparently pulled the trigger, firing a bullet that struck him in the penis.” He continued running along halsted Street before stopping at an empty car wash to throw something over a fence, reports an eye witness.
Pouncy then called 911 to report he had been shot. Police found Pouncy’s sweatshirt worn during the robbery along with the victims’ wallets and a .38 caliber pistol.
Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Erin Antonietti informed the court that police matched Pouncy’s blood stained boxers to those worn by the suspect in the security video. While stooping to pick up some money that fell on the floor, the robber’s underwear was clearly visible above his low-slung pants. Pouncy was taken to the Advocate Christ MEdical Center in Oak Lawn, where he remained during his bond hearing on Thursday, November 2.
Judge Stephanie Miller ordered Pouncy to remain in police custody without bail pending a second hearing on Tuesday, November 7. Pouncy has been charged with two counts of armed robbery.
