Tomorrow night’s UFC 210 bout between Cynthia Calvillo and Pearl Gonzalez has been canceled and Gonzalez’s gazongas are to blame.
The New York State Athletic Commission announced the cancellation shortly after the official weigh-in. According to the NYSAC, breast implants are not allowed in the ring.
According to the official rule, “Due to the concern over rupture, boxers who have breast implants are not eligible to box in New York. Boxers who have had breast reduction surgeries are eligible to box.”
States like California and Nevada don’t pose any restrictions of a female fighter’s augmentions, but New York is a different story. The timing of this cancellation is awfully suspicious since Gonzalez’s upgraded sweater puppies aren’t exactly new. Both fighters are attempting to have the decision overturned, but as of right now it looks like the fight will be falling flat.
What do you think about this rule?
UPDATE: As of 4:00 PM today the NYSAC overturned their original ruling. In a statement to the press they announced “after careful consideration and review, including a conversation with Pearl Gonzalez’s treatin physician, the Commission has determined that Ms. Gonzalez is medically cleared to participate in the UFC 210 event in Buffalo, NY.”
