When Kurn Keys’ 14-year-old son came home with his report card, the father was less than pleased with what he saw.
“His report card wasn’t reflective of what we’re doing in our household,” said Keys. “It just wasn’t reflective of the fact that we have running water, lights, internet, and a bunch of other things that I didn’t have as a kid.”
According to Keys, his son’s grades starting falling when he took more of an interest in friends, girls and social media. Keys decided to come up with a creative way to motivate his son instead of punishing him.
He wrote a message in permanent ink on his son’s new shoes: My Grades Matter.
“Every day until those grades are A’s and B’s, I don’t care about what I spent on the shoes; I need this message to come across every day he looks down at his feet.” Air Jordans range from $100-$400.
Keys used his son’s shoes to drive home a point about education, and we think it’s awesome.
The hashtag #MyGradesMatter has gone viral on social media sites, encouraging others to put grades first.
That’s a message we can ALL stand behind!
