Mechanical engineering students from BYU have designed the fastest bulletproof shield set-up ever built.
Constructed from 12 layers of Kevlar folded like Origami, the shield can be deployed in less than 5 seconds to provide cover and concealment from small arms fire.
The shield weighs just 55 lbs, nearly half the weight of similar mobile shields.
While it can easily stop 9mm, .357, and .44 Magnum rounds, the shield will probably fail under rifle fire.
It’s intended use is for law enforcement and first responders or as an “onsite tool” in case of emergencies.
