Local ABC reporter Corey James thought he was in for a great day when he was assigned to cover Disneyland’s newest ride, Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: Breakout. Unfortunately for Corey, no one gave him a “proper warning.”
The new ride is based on the hit comic book film franchise The Guardians of the Galaxy and it replaced one of Disneyland’s classic rides, the Tower of Terror. If you’ve been to Disneyland before, you can probably guess where this is going.
Most movie-based rides involve passengers sitting in a modified cabin that moves and shakes in front of a large movie screen. These can be used to simulate rollercoasters, car chases, and more but they never really go anywhere.
The Tower of Terror however, was a Disneyland ride based on The Twilight Zone. It involved passengers traveling to a fictional hotel tower, sitting in a spooky elevator, and then falling 130 feet straight down. The Guardians of the Galaxy ride is built on the same mechanism.
