The science behind carnival game scams and how to beat them

Mark Rober returns in a new video examining the science behind carnival game types.

If you’ve ever been to a carnival, you’re probably familiar with most of the standard games. They can cost anywhere from $1-$5 a pop and usually pay out some cheap trinket worth less than a buck.

Nevertheless, carnivals rack in tens of thousands every day from just these simple games.

Rober breaks the games into three categories: games won by skill, games won by luck, and games so unwinnable they’re basically a scam.

For each category he explains how the game works and what you can do to win.
